Watashi ni XX Shinasai is about a girl (as you would expect from a shoujo manga) named Himuro Yukina who likes to live her school life by observing others. Simply said, Yukina is an outcast due to her lack of socialization, and happens to have extremely cold skin (hence the nickname of “Absolute-Zero Snow Woman). Little does her school know, Yukina is actually “Yupina”, the author of a popular cell phone novel. One day, Yukina overhears her classmates pleading for more romance in her novel .
But as Yukina has yet to experience love, let alone any friends other than her cousin, she therefore deems herself unable to write a love story. Before long though, she stumbles upon Kitami Shigure, a classmate as well as the school’s most popular guy, who accidentally drops a notebook containing a list of girls in their class – herself included. Yukina soon figures out that the notebook includes details of who, where and when these girls confessed their undying love for Shigure, and of course, rejected by the said man. Yukina confronts Shigure and he admits that he pretends to be “perfect” in order to kill off time and to live an easy life by being adored by everyone.
Upon hearing this, Yukina decides to make Shigure her “love” partner so that she can write about romance in her novel (unknown to Shigure) by blackmailing him that she’ll reveal the contents of his notebook. Wanting to remain seemingly “perfect”, Shigure is forced to comply and with this, Shigure and Yukina’s “love relationship” starts. Each chapter features a new “mission” given by Yukina to Shigure such as holding hands, hugging etc. The things you would typically do with a lover.
Volume 1 features the two holding hands, hugging, kissing, all of which Shigure is forced to teach Yukina about “real love”. And by by kissing I meant…cheek wise.
This volume also reveals Yukina about her past and that her weakness is when someone takes off her glasses. As you would expect from a shoujo manga, this is due to one of those childhood traumas. In Yukina’s case, this was as when she had this little crush on her kindergarten teacher and he commented on how she should “fix her expression”.
In the chapter “Be My Stand-In Lover”, Shigure pretends to go on a date with Yukina until he runs off with her glasses. Just as Yukina is getting harassed by a group of females, Akira, Yukina’s cousin, rescues our heroine and takes back her glasses. The volume ends when Akira declaring to become Yukina’s lover…
Whilst this may seem weird as the two are cousins, let’s not forget this is a manga. A shoujo manga, to be exact. I’m sure we can expect to see quite a few rivalries here and there.
Until next time!
